Hey Jira and Slack enthusiasts!

I hope you're all doing well. I'm reaching out to our vibrant community today with a question regarding the integration of Slack with Jira, particularly focusing on enhancing automation capabilities.

I've been exploring ways to streamline our team's collaboration process by leveraging the power of Jira automation rules and Slack. One feature I've been pondering about is the ability to include a direct link to the original Slack message within Jira issues created through automation.

Use Case: Imagine this scenario: Our team heavily relies on both Jira and Slack for project management and communication. Often, tasks are created in Jira based on discussions that happen in Slack. However, it can be cumbersome to navigate back and forth between Jira and Slack to reference the context of a particular task. Having a direct link to the original Slack message within the Jira issue would significantly enhance the visibility and context around each task, making collaboration smoother and more efficient.

Benefits of Adding Slack Message Links:

  1. Enhanced Context: Team members can quickly access the original Slack conversation associated with a Jira issue, providing valuable context and clarity.
  2. Streamlined Workflow: Seamlessly integrating Slack message URLs within Jira reduces the need for manual navigation between platforms, streamlining the workflow and saving time.
  3. Improved Collaboration: With easy access to Slack messages directly within Jira, team members can collaborate more effectively, leading to increased productivity and better outcomes.

Now, I'm curious to hear from you, our community:

  • Have you ever felt the need to include a link to the original Slack message in Jira issues created through automation?
  • How do you envision this feature benefiting your team's workflow?
  • Do you have any creative ideas or workarounds for achieving similar functionality?

Your insights and experiences are invaluable, and they'll help us shape the future of our collaboration tools. Let's discuss and brainstorm together!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Best regards, Nicolas

Hello!

Let me share our team's use case in response to your questions:

In our team, we collect platform-related bugs, feature requests, and feedbacks via Slack, and then create issues in Jira based on these discussions on Slack.

When issues are moved to "In Progress," there's a need to see the details and discussions in the thread of the related Slack message. Finding this information in Slack can be difficult, and it's also challenging to add every detail from Slack to Jira issues. Managing all the issues without leaving Slack makes the process much simpler.

To address these challenges, we developed a Jira app within Actioner, a low-code integration platform.

Here are the key features offered by Actioner's Jira app:

  1. Seamless Issue Creation: Users can create Jira issues effortlessly by adding a ticket emoji to a message in Slack.
  2. Inclusion of Slack Message Links: The app automatically includes the Slack message link in the corresponding Jira issue, facilitating easy reference to the original discussion.
  3. Automated Notifications: Issue details are automatically sent to the dedicated project channel in Slack, complete with issue links, ensuring all team members stay informed.
  4. Enhanced Collaboration: Team members can update, assign, or comment on issues directly from Slack notifications, fostering collaboration and productivity.
  5. Customizable Workflows: The platform allows for easy customization of workflows to accommodate additional functionalities, such as using specific emojis to denote different types of issues or statuses.

Hi Tugba!

Does Actioner create Jira issues that contain a link back to the Slack message?

Hi!

Yes, when creating a Jira issue from a message in Slack, Actioner includes the Slack message link as a web link in the issue.

Here's how it looks on Jira:

When clicking on the web link in the issue, you will be directed to the corresponding Slack message.
