Is it possible to see remaining hours on the Greenhopper Dashboard?

Todd Clemens April 15, 2013

Is this feature possible, to see the amount of time left on each task without having to click on each one? For example, each task would have a small number on it, like 5h, to see the remaining time.

Greetings!

We have an existing discussion on this topic that you might find of interest. In a nutshell, starting in GreenHopper 6.0.3, boards that are configured for 'Time Tracking' the sum of the remaining estimate for the stories and sub-tasks will be shown in the sprint footer next to the sum of the 'estimate' value for the stories. Hopefully this will achieve what you are trying to accomplish.

That all being side, the posting I included is a detailed response that addresses our views regarding best practices on estimation and tracking. The solution revolves around leveraging velocity.

From an excerpt:

"in the Scrum world most teams do not try to achieve estimation accuracy, instead they aim to achieve a reliable velocity. The velocity is a measure of the number of estimation units that a team tends to complete from sprint to sprint. After their first few sprints most teams will achieve a reasonably consistent velocity. Armed with velocity and estimates on the PBIs in the backlog teams can look forward to predict how long portions of the backlog will take to complete."

Thanks Jason.

Actually, I was looking for something more like estimates on the actual "work" board, so we can easily see how many hours each person has remaining on any given task, to see what they could potentially work on next.

Do you know if something like this is available?

Thanks!

Hi Todd,

If you enabled time tracking as described above then the remaining time will appear on each card in work mode (in the bottom right). You can then immediately see time remaining for each task.

Cheers,
Shaun
