I use to have one workflow for one project that include task and sub-task, after a period of time the Admin ask me to replace the workflow but that we don´t need to delete or update the issues that were on the current status,
Now I´m facing a problem, i have a couple of issues stuck in the Status "In development X" but this status don´t have out or in transitions, when I try to update the workflow to add Input and output transitions Jira tell me "the draft can´t be published because the current Status "In Dev.." workflow don´t have In/ Out transition, can some one please help me with this.
You will need to make a copy of the workflow, edit it and add the transitions (make sure you add at least one outgoing transition to every status), then put it in a new workflow scheme, and migrate the project over to the new workflow scheme.
It's a silly looking bug in the workflow editor, but there are some horrid complexities in fixing it, and as it only affects administrators and has a relatively straightforward work-around, it is low on Atlassian's list to fix.
I think that in order to change workflow you will need temporarily remove the project association.
you could then add a transition to move those issues that are ‘stuck’, maybe with a strict condition on who can do it.
re-associate your workflow with project and fix issues.
there are other low level, ways to change statuses but this is a safe option
