I need to track admin activity more in depth. I can clearly see in the Audit log where group membership has been altered by someone with admin credentials - or possibly using the APIs of course, but need to be able to gain more insight. Anyone with any experience in more advanced logging in Jira?
Does your organization use Atlassian Guard (formerly Atlassian Access)?
If yes, you can find detailed logs of user management events and more in its Audit Log. Check out what activities are tracked in Atlassian Guard’s audit log here. To view and search your organization's audit log:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Security > Audit log.
Otherwise, you might need to explore third-party apps or develop a custom solution.
I previously wrote an article on building a Jira issue audit log app for deleted issues using Atlassian Forge, it might be helpful:

Hi Jamie,
If you're looking for deeper insights into admin and user actions, I’d recommend trying the User Activity Audit Log app.
It’s actively used by Information Security teams to monitor:
✅ Admin-level changes (especially around permissions updates)
✅ User login activity and interactions across the platform
You can view activity directly in the app, or send it to your SIEM tool via the REST API for advanced analysis. It also includes some useful built-in dashboards.
We’d love to hear any feature requests — the app is evolving based on real user feedback!
Best regards,
Salome
