There are two aspects I want to configure so that we have appropriate management of rankings on the backlog.
Firstly, I want to ensure that only a specific group of users is allowed to change the ranking, whilst preventing other users from changing the ranking (i.e. so they can view the board but cannot change ordering).
Secondly, I want to selectively enable issue change notifications. I want an assignee to know that the ranking has changed, via email notification. However, I want to suppress JUST ranking update email notifications for the managers of the projects we have (who get email notifications for everything in their projects).
Anyone got any ideas how I can achieve these on Jira Cloud (without the use of third-party add-ons; we don't have any)?
Hey there Phil, you can control who gets to rank issues by changing who has the 'Schedule Issues' permission in the project. Only those with the permission can rank issues.
As for the selective notifications, I am not aware of any built-in notification events for issues ranking, as they all fall under the 'Issue Updated' event.
Hi Joe,
Thanks for that. I'll give the "Schedule Issues" permission a look.
When one of the PMs (project manager) changes the ranking for an issue in the backlog, I get a notification for the issue with just a blank Sprint value. It's this sort of notification I'd like to suppress. Sounds like this isn't possible from what you said.
Cheers,
Phil
