There are a couple of tricks people can play on DC to do this
Get the XML of the workflow, edit the transition names, and re-import it. But it would be best if you absolutely did not do this. If you ever go to Cloud, your workflow won't import, you could have problems editing the workflow in DC, and it may also block upgrades of the DC system.
Hopefully, your old admin used the safer trick - the transitions don't have the same name, and they've got different amounts of spaces in their names (a variation on that is to replace characters with similar ones from non-English alphabets). This trick is perfectly safe, it won't break anything other than look impossible in workflow diagrams.
