Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 19:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×We have created a new issue type which is defined within the issue type hierarchy to share the same level as Epic, so that it can be viewed on the Timeline and share the same functionality as an epic type.
However, when creating a child of this new issue type through the Timeline view, the child issue type does not automatically populate the 'epic link' field that would normally poulate when creating a default Epic issue type.
Is this something that needs tobe configured or is this functionality only available for standard epic issue types?
Hi, I jsut wanted to update this ticket with my new learnings!
This action is possible, new issue types can be defined with the same hierarchy level and have the same functionality as epics on the Timeline/Roadmap.
Once we removed mandatory fields from our screen then the functionality worked as expected.
@David Bakkers - This should be possible under the latest jira experience. Thanks for your support.
is this functionality only available for standard epic issue types?
Yep, that's right.
If you Google 'jira issue same level as epic' the first result is where the question has been asked before and a detailed answer provided.
