Ok guys. i am new to Jira. how do i sum up all the sub task estimate to the parent issue or task?

i created a "task" type issue and linked a "story" type sub tasks to it. i have set the original estimate time for each of the stories, but they do not sum up for the parent task estimate. Parent task estimate still reads 0.

this is preventing me from starting my sprint, as it throws errors of null parent task estimates.

Welcome to the community.

The default Jira issue hierarchy is

Epic > Story/Task/Bug > Subtasks

You can make additional issue types at the Story/Task/Bug level and at the Subtask level.

Did you truly create a new issue type at the Subtask level and name it Story? Or are your Story and Task issues at the same level in the hierarchy and you linked them with the generic issue linking functionality?

Can you show us a screen image of the parent "task" that shows the "child stories"?
