AWS GovCloud

Thomas Spelsberg April 15, 2019

We are a government contracting company doing claims processing for military personnel and medicare.

We would like to move our agile/scrum teams to Jira and Confluence, but would require the FedRAMP Impact Level to be "High" for the cloud platform that we use.

Currently only AWS GovCloud platform has this rating level.

Does Atlassian have Jira and Confluence SAAS options available on AWS GovCloud?

Sounds like the sort of thing a strong Solution Partner could also assist with, provided they're experienced in Govt service delivery and security requirements. Check the https://partnerdirectory.atlassian.com and use the Govt filter under Advanced as a starting point.

Thank you!  My hope was that govCloud vs standard Cloud would just be a matter of cost.  Requiring a partner to get setup on a govCloud makes me think that there is a lot more to that approach than I was thinking.  Is that the case?  Or is there a link to some info that would allow me to educate myself on how govcloud  works?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You're going to face some (necessary) restrictions in the use of GovCloud - there's plenty of detail at https://aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us/ but the following notes would likely apply:

1. AWS has a number of prebuilt Atlassian images as ami's to speed up deployment - they're typically done as DataCentre based implementations, which is, if you need less than n instances, can be declustered to a single instance if your business case stacks up for doing that;

2. You'll need to work with staff that meet the vetting criteria for management, access to the instance.

Sovereign models like this are still an emergent pattern for clouds like AWS, so be prepared for some learning experiences and expectation gaps.

I am not sure if Atlassian has such an offering.  You can go here: https://www.atlassian.com/government to contact a government representative that could help you with your specific needs.

The link takes you to the right site, but the link to "get started" to connect with a government rep from Atlassian results in the following message:  "This survey is not accepting additional responses at this time. Thank You!"

I appreciate the link, as that is the right direction, though unfortunately that part of Atlassian's site is not working appropriately to enable me to connect with the right person.

Hi Thomas! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. We're actively working on getting the contact us form back up and running.
