Adding variables to activity stream

i would like to filter by username, what is the correct syntax? 

username   is  ....... ?

or

username is not ..... ?

You can use both.

The question is, which of these syntaxes would cause you to enter the minimum number of usernames in the text field.

I tried  Username is not carolyn van beek, it did not work as all my updates show up

and i tried username is teamname teamname teamname with space in between excluding myself,, it did not work as my updates still show up

The username should be exactly as it shows in the Admin > User Management. In some cases some users have their email addresses as usernames in the system even though it may not be obvious to them.

Team names will not work.
