I have enabled resolutions for different types of DONE. Many correspond to basically 'work not done' but i still want them to be marked as CLOSED.
In the reports, at the moment *all* DONE tickets contribute to the burndown. is it possible to exclude by resolution, so that only 'done done' is counted?
Not directly.
Jira Software's definition of "done" is "in the right hand column when you end the sprint".
So, if you want a certain resolution to be ignored, you either have to drop it from the board, or set up the workflow such that the only way to set that resolution is to move the issue into a status that is not in that column.
Note that setting it up to drop from the board means you adjust the board filter to say "and resolution != 'work not done'", but this will mess up your sprint metric as it will look like issues are being removed from the sprint.
this is really confusing! are you implying that it can't be done unless i am ready to see issues disappear from the sprint? I am certain i used to be able to filter out tickets that were not DONE DONE before, based on their resolution, and regardless of what the board might be displaying

Yes, there is a disconnect between Jira and Jira Software.
Jira uses the resolution (which is something I think most people would agree should have changed from version 2 onwards), but Jira Software boards look at the right-hand column on the board, and ignore resolution. There's no such thing as "done done" in either though, an issue is either open or it is not (although boards do allow you to do different perspectives, so one team sees issues as "done" while another sees them as "not done")
If you want a board to work with resolution, you have to make your workflow work with resolution to do what you want.
