Hi,
I have a custom field (multiline text). I need to restrict the character typed by the user to 600 and pop up a valid error message for a specific issue type.
I tried regular expression in Workflow Validator when the issue is getting created, but the validation applied to all the issue type. This worked as expected for that custom field with default error message. But issue was when the user select another issue type where this field is not mapped, it restricts the user to create the issue.
Is there any other option to restrict the character for a custom field in either case Create and Edit. But i have a limitation to download any new licensed plugins (third party app).
I appreciate your help to overcome this issue.

Given it's worked in a Workflow Validator, couldn't you just have 2 Workflows - one for the specific Issue Type, and one for other Issue Types?

Thanks for your response. 2 Workflows never works for my project. I need a validation to limit character for Custom field (multi line). As i requested in my post earlier, is there any other option to restrict character limit for custom field.
Workflow validation works only for create issue, incase the use edit and add more character it will accept. So i need other solution which can be reused.
