Hi @Ganesh Choubey D

If you are migrating to Cloud and want to do a cleanup of "unused groups" then it might be more difficult to determine what is actually an unused group..

Finding and removing groups with 0 members might be overall ok, but what if a group is only "temporary" not used but it was in the past or there is some configuration based on this group?

I think you have to look deeper than only count members..

This KB article might be helpful..

Of course if you are having already 14000 groups that does not help at all.. Would be good to write a script that would automate everything and gather result that you would later analyze..

Hi @Mirek

Thanks for the suggession i was able to get my solution by running a script.

Ref Link:  https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-discussions/Groovy-Script-to-list-all-groups-and-their-respective-members/td-p/680689

Now it is somewhat managable and yes i will make sure to see the group usuage for the groups, but traversing through database for each group usuage could be very complicated looking for some wrrkarounds.

Thanks & Regards,

Ganesh

Yes I agree that is why I am suggesting automating this in some way using a script that would run over the night and give you results later.

Overall just curious.. How you reached almost 14000 groups.. Was this created manually or automatically somehow?

Hello @Mirek

This particular Instance is active from last 5 years and group optimization has not been done for many years.

This is a banking sector project  so they have opted for the group creation for each branch which has led to this huge instance of 14000 groups, one of the huge problem is they are having more than 30% empty groups looking for some scripting refernces still for the group usuage.......

Thanks & Regards,

Ganesh
