How do I copy a field from a story to Epic if I do not have Global admin rights, using Automation?

I am a project admin with rights in the story project and the project that contains it's Epic. I am using Jira Automation to accomplish this. I am trying to add the values that are in a field, from the story to it's parent Epic. I would like this to be when the field value changes.

An example would be the Labels field, if I listed "Label A" in a story, then that "Label A" would be added to the labels field of the Epic. Is this something that is possible in any way? And if other story 2 under the Epic contained "Labels B" and story 3 contained "Labels C", the the Epic would have all 3 labels listed. Same question for concatenating information the the notes field within the Epic?
Thanks!

Hello @Steven Johnson

You may be able to do this with the Automation for Jira feature.

The availability of the feature depends on if you are using Jira Server or Jira Data Center, and which version of the product you are using. The Automation for Jira app may need to be installed by a Site Administrator to make it available in your instance.

Thanks for the reply Trudy! I realize now that I should have been more detailed in my question. I am trying to do this using Automation (data server). The issue is that I know I could do it if I had global (jira) admin rights, but I do not and cannot use anyone that does, so I am trying to do this with only having project admin rights.

Are the Epic and child issues in different projects?

As a project admin you can create automation rules based on issues in only one project at a time. You can't create rules that can be triggered by changes to issues in Project A and then make changes to related issues in Project B. That would require intervention from a Jira Administrator.

If you Epic and child issues are in different projects, you cannot accomplish this without a Jira Administrator's assistance.

Yes, unfortunately they are in separate projects. I know this one was a long shot, but also know there are a lot of creative ways to tackle some of these things.

For example, I can use an automation rule to move one project's Epic status when the status of a separate project story changes. I couldn't do it directly, but used a filter to find all of the stories that are in a specific status. Then in the Epic project I created a rule that called that filter and ran the trigger as a schedule, which checks for this and updates the Epic if it finds any.

That is a MUCH more simple ask than what I am currently trying to do, so I doubted that it was possible, but it doesn't hurt to try, right. :)
