How do I rename system fields in JIRA Cloud?

Brad Hayes November 6, 2018

I'm following knowledgebase https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/renaming-system-fields-in-jira-278692006.html

The first step is to go to Atlassian Translations at

https://translations.atlassian.com/?_ga=2.118927883.369094993.1541535076-101737654.1541535076

That page however has a large red warning at the top saying

Translations.atlassian.com will be retired on 16th November 2018 - See confluence.atlassian.com/translations for more information.

Reading the information there gives me the impression that even following the knowledgebase, it would not apply to Cloud based JIRA instances.

Hi Brad,

you're right. You see the linked Jira feature requests is for Jira Server and the article is talking about Jira v.4.4+ which also only applies to the server application. So what field do you want to rename and have you read through this article for Jira Cloud? You only got very few possibilities of renaming system fields.

Translating resolutions, priorities, statuses, and issue types

Hi Max,

Thanks for the reply.  I have not seen this other article, I'll take a look at it.

What we're trying to accomplish is to have both a Solution and a Description, but the way JIRA works, we cannot add a new field and choose to put it above system fields, so we're attempting to rename the Description to Solution, then add a new user defined field for the Description.
