How do I use 'Shared Templates'?

dnorthrup November 22, 2022

I asked a similar question before, and I was advised I needed to make the template on a Company Managed project, so I did.

However, I am still not able to see anything under 'Add' that mentioned Shared Templates like in the guide.

For explaination

PROJ 1 - Company Managed Project that is where I built the template.

PROJ 2 - Team Managed Project that I want to import it

PROJ 1 has a couple generic templates built.

I go to PROJ 2 and ensure Issue template share project in config is pointing to PROJ 1.

I go back to build the flow on PROJ 2, and click Add but don't see the Shared Template.

Can someone provide me with the exact steps I am supposed to do, and caveats, to get this to work?

Use Case: I need to build out the template in one singular project, and be able to 'Add' it to other Projects as a baseline.

Hello @dnorthrup

We appreciate your feedback and creating this Community Question.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to share Templates with Team-managed Projects as they are isolated entities in Jira. For that reason, WBS Gantt-Chart has no means to build interactions between Team Managed projects and other project types.

In any case, we have taken note of your suggestion and forwarded to our Product Managers.

Given that scenario, we recommend reading the following Atlassian article - depending on the circumstances, migrating to a company-managed project may be an alternative:

Hope this helps - but if you have any further questions, please, contact us anytime at Ricksoft-Support.atlassian.net. We'll be happy to help.

We wish you a great day!

Thanks for that context, interesting. in that case, could you provide the step-by-step to do Company Managed to Company Managed? I found a method earlier but it doesn't feel correct.

Appreciate your reply @dnorthrup !

To add a Template from a different project to your Gantt Chart, here is what you need to do:

  1. From your Gantt Chart screen, open the Gantt Configuration from the Cog Icon in the grey toolbar.
  2. At the Gantt configuration screen, go to the Issues;
  3. Next, click the Edit button on the top right corner of the panel;
  4. Then, add the Projects you would like to use the templates from at the Issue template share project field;
  5. Click the Update button to the changes and go back to the Gantt chart.

Your templates will be available from the Add button, and switching to Template view will also display them.
