How do you estimate the storage space projects on Jira Server will take on Jira Cloud?

We are prepping for the migration to the Jira Cloud.

We have two sperate Jira Server instances and one of them, a lot of old projects exist so I want to determine how much space the projects we want to migrate will take up on the Cloud so we can best determine the Cloud instance type we need.

It should be very similar to the size that you have on server.    You can find out the file storage size on server by looking at the attachments folder found <JIRA_HOME>/data/attachments/

This should give you good idea of how much file storage is needed and help you identify which plan would best suit your needs.

So the storage limits on the cloud plans do not refer to the DB or ticket foot print but rather the file storage?

I know the storage limits, I am trying to understand what they mean.  My assumption was that those limits are for all data (ticket details and attachments).  Your answer for estimating space requirements from a Jira server implied that the storage restrictions only applied to the attachments being stored.

File storage includes everything but is mainly made up of your attachments.  The other data is very minimal.  Thus focusing and looking at the attachments should give you the best insight into the amount needed.  If you have a very large Jira instance with lots of issues you can add several gigs to cover that.  https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/track-storage-and-move-data-across-products/
