Hi! How to quickly move hundreds child from 1 parent JIRA to various parents?
Is there any workaround to move those childs condition using bulk import or another JIRA features? Thank you
Hi Norbertus,
You can do this with a Bulk change action. Just do your query for the issues you want to change to a new parent. Then click on the 3 dots in the upper right, and select Bulk change.
Then select the issues and Next.
Then select Move issues and Next
Here you can change the parent of each one.
Hi @John Funk thank you for your quick response.
The additional info is: I need to move subtasks from 1 project to various destinations (more than 1 project) as explained on this table.
Thank you

Hi @John Funk , did not work. For example 1 try to move 5 issue as captured below. I cannot move those each of 5 issue to 5 different destinations. There are only 1 destination available.

When you do your query, only select those issues that you want to move to a common parent. If it's one to one, then yes, it will take longer and you should consider doing the CSV import.

Update your CSV just like you have it in your example where Parent-10, Parent-11 etc. are the exact keys of the Parent you want to update to. But also include a column for your existing Key for the Sub-task
Key | Parent | |
ABC-123 | Parent-10 | |
ABC-124 | Parent-11 | |
ABC-125 | Parent-12 | |

I imagine you should be able to do that using CSV Imports. That's the most versatile way.

Hi @Hans Polder _Devoteam_ i only need to move the existing subtasks, not to upload and create new subtask. I appreciate for your quick response

Any possible way to do this with import bulk features? Thank you

if you're looking for a more interactive experience and are open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.
JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields - including the parent field - much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also allows bulk editing all your issue fields via copy/paste.
This is how it looks in action:
This works within JXL, but also between JXL and any other app, including Excel or Google Sheets. You can update any number of issues in one action, so you should be done with your work in no time.
I should also add that JXL can do much more than the above: From support for configurable issue hierarchies, to issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting. If you view your issues in their hierarchy, you can also bulk-change the issue parent via drag and drop, by simply moving issues "into" their parent.
Any questions just let me know,
Best,
Hannes
