Hi!
I have a Jira software development project where when I set Done or Closed I cannot select a resolution. I can't for the life of me figure out what config setting I need to change to allow users to specify a resolution.
Currently it always defaults to Done, which is fine for the Done status, but in the case of Closed I'd like to be able to specify "Won't do" or "Rejected" (for a rejected feature request).
I managed to find how to configure similar behavior for my Jira Service Desk project, but not my software development one.
Hi Sascha,
All you need to do is keep the resolution field as a required in the transition screen in workflow.
NOTE :- Please accept the answer if this helpful for you.
Thanks,
Armitha.
I'm afraid this is not a helpful answer - you can't "keep a field as required" in a transition.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
We can use field required validator in the workflow transition.
For better understanding find the link below:-
Thanks,
Armitha.

Yes, you can do that, but it is not "keeping a field as required", and for resolution, you do not need to do it.

What this article describes isn't available on my workflow configuration page. There are no "validator options".
I have 2 Jira projects, one is for development (the one I'm having issues with, type: Team-Managed) and the other is for Jira Service Desk (type: Service Management). The latter has a ton more configurability that I can access via the gear icon on the top right of the screens, however the former is very limited in configurability which can be accessed via the Project Settings in the left hand menu.

Team-managed projects work differently to company managed projects and don't have a full equivalent of "validators", or a lot of the other shared functionality.
But, again, you don't need to use a validator on resolution.

Well @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- I can't seem to configure the screens for this project either.
When editing the Story/Task issues workflow there's no option to specify a screen, there's only Name, Path, Rules and Properties.

You are working within a "team managed" project, which does not have the power or flexibility of a "company managed" project. You don't get screens in them, and you don't need to think about the resolution field, as you configure its behaviour with tick boxes.

What do you mean by this exactly?

I mean what I said.
If you do not try to do anything "clever" with the resolution field, then it works properly "off the shelf"

Well right now it gets automatically set to Done all the time with no possibility to edit it, without me having done anything config-wise. So I wouldn't call that "working properly off the shelf"...

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
All you need to do is include the resolution field on the transition screen that you have told your workflow to use when moving into the end status.
You don't need a behaviour or script, you just need to put the resolution on the transition screen.

Hmm... All of the screens have the Resolution field, how to set a transition screen for a particular workflow?
I select my project, go to Project Settings/Issue Types, select Story and then click Edit Workflow. From there I can't find anything about setting a specific screen, even when I select the transition to Closed there's no option to set a screen, there's only Name, Path, Rules and Properties.
If I use the gear icon on the top right and go to Issues, everything in there seems to be related to my Jira Service Desk project, I don't see anything related to my regular Jira project.

Hi Sascha,
The link given below guides you well on how to set a transition screen in a particular workflow.

Armitha.

Hi Armita,
I went through the whole thing only to realize at the end that whatever I was creating/building/configuring only applies to the Service Desk project, there's no way to specify which project this should apply to. The issue type selection only shows me the issue types from the Service Desk project as well.

I am sorry that the answer you got before was misleading - it was generated by an AI that has no understanding of your question or Atlassian software.
