How to turn on "Use gzip compression"

I can not turn this on in the Admin Area of my on demand instance. Usually enabling gzip compression results in faster load times which are never a bad thing. Why can this setting not be switched to "on"?

Hi Jan,

We use gzip compression at the web server (Apache) level, so using it at the application level is redundant for our OnDemand setup.
