I'm just getting started on building out our Jira Cloud platform. I want to create a Jira Service Management project called Operational Support, since that is a project name my users are familiar with.
When i try to create it, Jira says that Project already exists, but it isn't showing anywhere that i can find. I only see ITSM Sample Space in my list of Projects: https://lsrsupport.atlassian.net/jira/projects?selectedProjectType=service_desk
It turns out I still had this Project in the Trash. I only learned this because i received a warning that this project would be permanently deleted in 6 days. I assumed sending it to the trash over a month ago would effectively delete it, but no.
I have since permanently deleted it from Trash and can now create my Project from scratch.
When I'm looking at my Projects there is no intuitive way to view the Trash. I see it when i follow the link in my email, but when i'm in my Projects list, i have no sidebar with a link to Trash. It would also be good if the "Project is already created" error gave some detail as to where the project is so I can go look at it.
Maybe the project already exists and you just don't have permission to view or search for it.
I recommend you check with someone with Site Admin permission, they should have a complete view of existing projects.
It may happen that the project has been created and deleted, but its key is still in a "security" period where it can only be used again after 60 days.
Try using a different key than what Jira suggests and you should be able to create the project.

I should be Site Admin as I created this whole account and I will be creating Projects, Workflows, Permissions, etc.
Can you tell me how to ensure I am the Site Admin? I checked Account Settings and I don't see any permissions settings (which could also be because I'm not Site Admin)

If you created this account, then you have full site permission.
I believe that either a project has already been created with this key and well, you can try a different key.
The project name may even be similar, but the key is something unique. Try changing the project key when creating and if there is an error, return with the screen capture for us to evaluate, ok?
