A couple of weeks back I had enabled the option to group issues by Epic, which was a really easy way to see all of the issues related to a single epic. This is only impacting a single project, all others I can still group by epic. I'm not sure what I changed to lose this ability, but I desperately want it back. Some context, I've created a 'Strategic Initiatives' project that houses Strategic Initiatives (parent) and Initiatives (Child). This is where I'd like to group by epic, in this case the Strategic Initiative. I created
I've made changes to my system since this occurred, so I can't restore from a backup. I've also gone through settings from a project where it works to see if there's something obvious missing from my other project, but I can't see anything.
Would love any suggestion. Thanks
Hi Braden,
Did you rename the Epic issue type to Initiatives? Or some other name? Or what is the name of the Issue Type at Level 1?
Hi John. I created new issues types. I wish I could add a screenshot, but here is the order they display:
Strategic Initiative - Hierarchy 3
Initiative - Hierarchy 2
Epic (this was existing) - Hierarchy 1
I'm pretty confident this was the same hierarchy that was in place when it was working. I have created new Workflows and Workflow Schemes, not sure if that would be the cause.
I appreciate your help.

I'm unable to group them to their parent. For example, on my Kanban board I was able to group them by epic, and it grouped all the Initiatives (child) with the Strategic Initiative (parent).
Now, when I use the 'Group by Epic' toggle nothing happens, they do not get grouped to their parent.

That's really odd because it was working at one point. Something must have changed but I don't know what.

We're having the same problem here! Before we could group by Epic in the Board view. Now the option is gone and clicking the Epic toggle does nothing.
Under "Group By" we now have: assignee, subtask and none.
We are using a team-managed software project.
What has changed in the software to effect this behavior? This is really disrupting our operations as the group by Epic was fundamental to keeping things well organized.
Hoping there's a solution to this problem.
Sincerely,
Fredrik

Hi @Fredrik Carlsson -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Have you confirmed your project has any Epic issues?
When I try this with a team-managed project with no Epics in the project, the Epic option is not shown under Group By on the board. As soon as I add an Epic issue to the project it becomes available.
Kind regards,
Bill

Hi Bill,
I'm not quite sure how you mean. Do you have the option to group Epics in this menu shown below?
Something strange is going on it seems. When I go to the backlog of the project all issues there appear to not be linked to an epic, but if I click the issue the epic link appears (but disappears again if I refresh the page)
When I click/open an issue:
I am not familiar with the List view (which earlier today was listed as New) but looking thru that I can see the epics and also see the hierarchy/relationship between Epics, Tasks/Stories and Subtasks. This view is sorta useful in the sense that it groups things similar to how we are used to but "breaks" when you apply filters (the grouping/hierarchy disappears) so unfortunately not very good for our needs.
I also took a double check to make sure the Epics are associated with Sprints as per the screenshot below, but still no success with the Board-view:

What I observed was this:
The announcement for changes to Group By just got posted in the community a few hours ago:
I recommend responding to that thread to ask how it is supposed to work, and submitting a defect if it is not working.
