×Can you order the comments from newest to oldest on the new issue view?
Hi @Theresa DeLone,
Yes, you can.
Here the related KB: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiracloud/changing-the-default-order-for-comments-from-ascending-to-descending-884344544.html
This did not work for me. I've changed it to desc but it still renders comments in ascending order, oldest on top to newest on the bottom. I've changed it back and forth between asc and desc a number of times, and the sort order remains the same.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
This did not work for me either. Specifically on the new views:
I am able to sort the order of comments on the old issue view.
In the new views, the arrow down next to the Comments is just a drop down to switch it between Comments and History (and not a toggle for sort order). That was a little misleading.

This does not work for me either, same issues as Thuy-Van Watts in previous comment.

Changed jira.issue.actions.order to desc but still the comments are sorted by ascending order. How to change the sorting order in new issue view?

Same for me too - please Atlassian get this fixed asap

I also changed jira.issue.actions.order to desc and it hasn't worked.
A couple of days ago I saw the option to set the default to desc directly in the card but that's also gone now.

Could Atlassian explain why the the ability to to set the default option directly in the card has suddenly disappeared. Our team liked that facility for the few days it was there.

Hi Theresa,
head over to the advanced settings Jira Settings -> System -> General Configuration and in the upper right is a button called "Advanced Settings". There you have a property called "jira.issue.actions.order" and this can be changed to "desc" from "asc" but will also influence the visualization of other data as also commented under the setting.
Best, Max

You're welcome Theresa, please feel free to accept this comment and others as solution for other users looking for the same information in the future :)

If this did work, wouldn't it change the view for ALL users on our Cloud system? This is not a solution I'm comfortable with.

This issue is for the new issue view and it's not working for me.
It's getting frustrating when a seemingly simple but very useful feature is not available in the new issue view.

Agree with others above. This needs to be a profile-specific setting, not a default for everyone.

It's challenging that the UI doesn't clearly state how to change the sorting order for comments in a card, and that I needed to make a google search to find a solution.
The solution is at a system level, and again makes me miss the old card view which was geared at intermediate users who've learnt and accustomed themselves to certain patterns.

Hi.
I am using Jira Cloud, but I have set jira.issue.actions.order = desc and history don´t order
Some alternative for this.

For jira cloud, Jira deploy a new feature.
Since right you can order the comments (Newest First)

I don't see this link (i.e. "Newest first") instead just the below:
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
My comments were sorted 'newest first' for a few days but I don't know if I had a control to change it. I was just happy for a short period. Now it's gone and I'm sadly scrolling again, and again, and some more...

@JT Moree Okay...I thought it was just me :) Hopefully they will bring back this feature because it is not great having to scroll down long tickets!

If you care about having this as a user preference, please vote for this issue: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-5443
And/or this one, for folks who haven't given in to The Cloud:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-5443
Atlassian's been ignoring it for nearly 15 years now, probably because we're writing comments and questions in the "Community" rather than voting for the right issue.
You'd think Atlassian would have figured out how to store user preferences by now. Thousands of their customers certainly have figured it out for their own products.

Actually, the issue you linked is not the same as the one being requested in this question.
The OP wanted to know how to sort comments newest to oldest in the "new issue view". The "Solution" is that it's not possible. The feature was removed when the "new issue view" was released.
The issues you linked above for voting are not related to the "new issue view". They are related to a bug in the old issue view that resets the sort order when a session ends. Since the sort order can no longer be set at all in the "new issue view", then even if we vote for the features above and they are developed, it will not help.
The issue people who have the problem described here should be voting for is:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-69548
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
This is the most definitive answer in this thread! ***The "Solution" is that it's not possible.***
Thank you Jim Ryan - how can I vote this as the accepted solution?

I seriously doubt Atlassian listens to their users at all, but it can't hurt.

Why doesn't this also affect the modal window? It only affects the full-screen view.
