JIRA 7.8.0 - Database is using unsupported collation - message during first startup

Dear Support-Team,

i´m checking out the new JIRA-Version 7.8.0 in our test-environment. I get the warning "database is using an unsupported collation" during the first startup.

JIRA_7.8.0_startup_database is using an unsupported collation.PNG

I continue with the button "Ignore all warnings and continue. ...

If i will execute now an instance health check the result is that everyting is ok and the used collation seems to be "binary".

instance health check2.PNG

But if i execute the follow sql-statement against our test-database and against our productive oracle-database, i will get the result "GERMAN":

SELECT COALESCE(value, (SELECT value
                        FROM   nls_database_parameters
                        WHERE  parameter = 'NLS_SORT'))
FROM   nls_session_parameters
WHERE  parameter = 'NLS_SORT'

So whats going on? i´m confused ... have we got a problem or not? Do we need to react and change something?

I´m looking forward for your reply.

Kind Regards

Hi there, Knut,

I can see you will run into problems as your Oracle database is 10g, and Jira 7.8 only supports 12c R1.

Once you upgrade Oracle, you can fix the collation issue here:

Hi Shannon,

we are using oracle 12.1.0.2 ... the shown database-type (10g) is not correct.

Knut

Knut,

Thank you for confirming that. Can you let me know if you were able to resolve the issue with the article I provided you?
