Hi all,
I am having issues with the Quick Filter Order By command. Priorities are customized as below:
My Quick Filter is set up as below:
$Impact is a custom number field.
When I activate these Quick Filters in the KanBan board, the issues are not actually sorted. See below:
As you can see, the Priority filter does not work, as the order goes from Blocked to At Risk to Blocked again. Also, the $ Impact does not work, as the number value (shows on the card) goes low-high-low.
I'll note that the third filter shown (Blocked) does work, and when I click that, only Blocked issues show up, as expected.
Does anyone know why my Column is not sorting? I can't seem to figure this one out from online resources. Thank you,
Hi,
I am afraid you cannot sort by using a quick filter. Either you are fine using a quick filter for displaying high priorities, or you can edit the board filter and add the "ORDER BY" there, but you will not be able to change it when viewing the board.

Hi Antoine,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. Just to clarify, there is no way to sort order of my cards in the KanBan board according to any field at all? Is that true?
When you say, 'or you can edit the board filter and add the "ORDER BY" there,' I thought I had already done that using a quick filter, as shown in the screenshots. Are you describing something different?
Thanks,
Kenny

Hi Antoine,
Ah, I see now what you are saying. I hadn't realized that there was also a global filter option. I have now set the default filter to order by priority and $impact as we will likely always want that view. Then, I can use quick filters to only display certain priorities if we want a detailed view otherwise.
Is there any way to quickly show a set of filters like this above the KanBan board? It is quite inconvenient to have to manually make a new filter to sort by different fields, and slows down meetings where people want specific views of the Board. I see that there is an add-on for Server Jira but we are running Cloud right now and I don't imagine we'll be switching over anytime soon.
Regards,
Kenny

By default, the board is ordered by rank. You should be able to order by another field by editing the board filter (see attachment). Unfortunately you will not be able to re-arrange the ordering of the board by using quick filters.
Quick filters will only let you exclude some values (as you did with "Blocked issues").

Unfortunately, you cannot edit the filter on the board view. So yes, you need to edit the filter each time you want to edit the ordering.
I would advise to choose a field to order by, and then highlight key metrics with the other components : swimlanes, card colours/layouts and quick filters.
You can combine several quick filters to narrow down on different fields as well.
If your board is still too complicated, you might want to split it to keep things readable.

Antoine
