Migration to cloud stuck at "The migration is currently in progress"

John Rushe February 2, 2022

Hi,

Migrating from Server to Cloud. Migration encountered problems while migrating apps (Tempo, RC4J, Zephyr) and is not stuck at "The migration is currently in progress".

It does not appear to be possible to cancel/re-run he migration or to start a new migration.

Can anyone advise how to cancel\remove the migration ?

Thank you,,

john

Hi @John Rushe

I understand that you have a Jira Server starter license and are looking to migrate to our Atlassian Cloud, but that this migration appears to be in a stuck state.  I took a closer look at your Cloud site, and I believe I have found a problem here.

It appears that your Cloud site is only using the Free plan. This has some restrictions that I thought might be causing the migration to hang.  In general when migrations from Server to Cloud happen, we recommend that the Jira site be using a standard or premium service plan as features are not restricted in these service plans, and you are able to create a support ticket if need be.

I was looking to create a support ticket on your behalf for this issue so that Atlassian support could investigate this closer, but even I was prevented in this case from doing so.  The warning I got back was that the site license had expired and there were insufficient payment details for this site.   Perhaps they can help us to temporarily extend the evaluation.  To further that end, I created a ticket with our product advocates team to extend this license over in https://getsupport.atlassian.com/servicedesk/customer/portal/37/PA-121962

But ultimately, I would want to try to put this Cloud site into an evaluation for our standard plan.  I think that will be needed to complete this migration itself.  Once the migration is complete, if you wanted to switch to the free plan you could still do so.

Alternatively, you could try to create a new Cloud site with a different URL.  This would grant you at least a temporary evaluation of standard long enough to try this migration again.  If this hangs or fails for any reason though, you can then create a support ticket for this by going to https://support.atlassian.com/contact

However right now, because your site is only using the free plan, using that form will only route your questions here to Community.

I hope this helps.

Andy

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your advice below.

I updated our version of the Migration app, upgraded our plan and ran a new migration (20220219) containing 2 projects and two apps (Tempo and Zephyr Squad).

This time I can see that the migration of Tempo is stuck at 50% complete and Zephyr is stuck at 0% (as before).

Regards

Hi @Marcelo Viscarra I believe this should be directed at our migration support team.  I moved your other support request over to https://getsupport.atlassian.com/servicedesk/customer/portal/49/MOVE-1762023

Hi John,

I am assuming you are talking about Zephyr Squad.

When Zephyr is stuck at 0%, it's normally because there was no listener registered from the migration. Please check our steps described here: https://support.smartbear.com/zephyr-squad-server/docs/get-started/cloud-migration-guide/via-jcma.html

Steps to check Listener configuration(In Jira Cloud Instance):

a.Navigate to Apps > Manage apps

b.Check if there is any listener configured under JCMA migrations sections

If that is not it, please raise a support ticket with us at https://support.smartbear.com/zephyr-squad/message/

Hi,

The answer you are referring to is from the beginning of last year. It was an issue we faced at that time, but we have since fixed it.

Your migration plan might be running even though the progress shows 0%

Please raise a ticket with us at https://support.smartbear.com/zephyr-squad/ informing your migration plan name and target Cloud URL so we can check the status from the backend.

Thank you.
Luzia.
