My custom workflow is not allowing me to move stories to the in progress states I have defined

Paul November 10, 2018

I defined a custom workflow for a Scrum project:

ToDo-> In Progress->Ready for Test->Ready for PO Approval->Done

I then built the Workflow scheme to be followed for Issue types Story, Subtask, Epic

All other Issue types follow the default simplified workflow

I created a project and associated the new Workflow scheme with it

I then created a backlog of stories, some with subtasks

I then created and started a sprint.

When I try to move a story or subtask from the Todo state the In progress column on the scrum board only shows the In Progress state. It does show me the transition label I used in the custom workflow (I labelled it "Development Complete") so I know the custom workflow is being used.

I have reviewed many how to videos and am following the instructions.

Any help on what I am doing wrong and what I need to do would be much appreciated.

Thx

Thanks again Max - I created a brand new board with 2 workflows - one for development and one for bugs. Seems to work fine.

On the one that doesn't work it's using a standard Jira workflow for bugs and tasks and my custom flow for development work. The development flow works fine as I said.

If I go into the issues view I can see the bugs Issues I have added.

If I go into the board view I was expecting to see the unmapped statuses from the standard Jira workflow e.g. Resolved, Reopened. I do not see these so I can't add columns and then drag and drop them in.

I also don't know how to check the board filter as you suggested - can't find a "thing" labeled board filter anywhere.

btw - I'm learning Jira to support a new client engagement I am working on. So, just trying to get up to speed and the basics++

Best

Hi Paul,

could you please post a picture of the column mapping of your board? Have you mapped all statuses already?

Thanks for your help on this. Your question prompted me to solve the problem.

Basically the workflow and Workflow assignments were correct but I had not added the additional status columns to the board.

Noe it's working correctly for the custom workflow.

My new problem is that when I add a bug issue type to the backlog it gets added but does not display. I can view it in the all issues view but cannot  drop it into a sprint from the backlog view.

Could you offer me any thoughts on this one?

Hi Paul,

glad this pointed you in the right direction. Could you please check your board filter? It sounds like it's not including the issue as the issue is existing in the project but not on the board.  So normally this is caused by mistakes in the board filter.

Best, Max

Hi @Max Foerster - K15t ,

I'm facing the same issue. When I move any item from one status to another in the scrum board, it's not showing the transition labels that I have created. Please find the screenshot of my columns. Ours is company managed project space.Screenshot 2021-07-29 at 1.11.20 PM.png
