Request for a capacity field on the sprint screen

Lynne Ratcliffe March 4, 2024

I have tried searching through the requests with no luck, but thought I would ask the question in case anyone is aware of an existing request before I raise one.

I'd love it if we could add a field to the sprint table (shown on the create . edit sprint screen) where we could add the estimated capacity for that sprint so that I can extract that as part of the BI report I have built or even to be shown on the velocity chart.

Does anyone know of such a request?

Hi @Lynne Ratcliffe,

I am not sure why the capacity would be important for later reporting. If you know your team's capacity for the upcoming sprint, you would add work to your sprint to match that capacity, so you can ideally deliver what you planned for. The velocity chart already delivers a view of what you committed to vs what your team actually delivers each sprint, showing you how your team manages to deliver what it promises.

I see how capacity is relevant to make appropriate decisions about what your commitment should be for a sprint. However, I cannot think of any scrum master who would on purpose commit to something completely different than the team capacity allows for and then wants to see reports to prove that.

Hope this helps!

I find it useful to look back at the capacity we had vs velocity delivered and also to get average velocity per average capacity. Each to their own, may be a little intense but it's something I like to know and be able to refer back to and see on the velocity chart
