Soon to be migrating from Server to cloud. I'm just enquiring to as to whether anyone else has undertaken this exercise before and if so what did you learn from the process. Any tips and pointers is very welcome & highly appreciated
Anything surrounding the following will be great:

Hi @Nath - We have helped and supported multiple customers move from Atlassian server to Cloud. If you agree let's connect for a short call

Hi Abhishek, I really appreciate your response. If you're free early next week we could perhaps arrange something - that could be great.
In the meantime, if you could give a rough draft of some of the primary challenges that you faced / any useful tips/ advice in text format, that you have accumulated from the experiences that you have had, that would be really appreciated.
And secondly is there a big difference between the two (Server and Cloud)?
Thanks again Abhishek.

Hi @Nath
Sounds like it will be great to connect with @abhishek_sharma03!
There's a helpful article here about the differences between server and cloud.
Appfire has also written an Ultimate Guide to Jira Migrations, with Jira expert @Rachel Wright, which you can access for free.
I definitely recommend the support of an Atlassian Solution Partner that can provide guidance and migration services (like Abhishek!)
Best of luck with the migration,
Kelsey from Appfire

Hi @Nath
Moving projects can be complex and require careful planning. Before you start moving from Jira on your own servers to Jira Cloud, you should think about these important things:
1) Minimizing Disruption and Downtime Costs:
Have you assessed the financial implications associated with potential disruptions and downtime during the migration?
2) Contingency Planning for Time Overruns:
What preparations have been made to address situations where the migration exceeds the planned timeline, potentially resulting in productivity and continuity losses?
3)Migration Approach Selection:
Will your migration, the "Big Bang" approach, necessitate the simultaneous migration of all users, or can it be carried out incrementally, allowing teams to transition gradually without disrupting inter-team collaboration?
4) Iterative Migration Considerations:
In case of an iterative approach involving gradual data transfer:
-How will you ensure seamless data operability between the source and target systems throughout the migration?
-What strategies are in place to manage the migration of various components without interrupting business continuity?
-Will users have access to both source and target systems throughout the migration, with the capability to synchronize changes from the target back to the source (reverse synchronization)?
5) Comprehensive Cost Analysis:
Have you accounted for the complete cost of migration, including data transfer expenses, potential downtime, disruptions, and information loss?
6) Recovery and Rollback Mechanisms:
In the event of a migration failure or interruption, what mechanisms are available for recovery or rollback?
Additionally, several other factors merit consideration during the migration from Jira On-Premises to Jira Cloud, including Field Template In-Consistency, the Impact on Jira Server, Migrating plugin data, and the management of Plugins, Workflows, and Field Template inconsistencies.
