Structure.Gantt: Manual scheduling error message

Jeff Levy July 9, 2020

When trying to manually schedule a task in structure.gannt, I am getting the following error message:

Cannot change manual start date

Cannot edit Start Date of XXXX-45961. Perhaps it's read-only, or not added to the Edit screen.

I get a similar message when trying to change the sprint assignment in the issue from the gannt view.

I have the manual scheduling box checked in the configuration.

Do I need an admin to add the fields to the edit screen for the issue?

Hi Jeff!

Yes, all Gantt fields should be added to issue edit screen in order to be updated, that's correct.

Hi, @Hal Hanlin  (and, @Venkata Rao Nadigadda too — very very sorry we missed your follow-up Q).

Structure & Structure.Gantt run on the user's underlying Jira configuration. So, the idea here is that if you want to make changes to certain fields in the Structure or Structure.Gantt view the fields in question must also be visible in that user's Jira issue view.

Hi @Dave Rosenlund _Trundl_

Is there any option to override this? I am asking since we wouldn't like to have the start and finish fields on the edit screen, to avoid confusion (nobody would use them in edit screen, since they are part of the planning that we are aiming to do within the Gantt).

I saw there is an Advanced mode for Start and Finish fields, but didn't find any documentation on it. Can you guide me to the correct place?

Thanks,

Omer

Hello @Omer Meshar,

David from ALM Works here.

It is possible to make a field available to edit on an issue, and then hide it on the edit screen.  Once the field has been added, you just deselect it in the "configure fields" menu.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "advanced mode for start and finish fields"?  In order to point you to the right place, it would be helpful to understand what you are trying to do.

We have documents on Manual Scheduling as well as Slice-based configurations, which may be helpful to you.

Please feel free to reach out to our support team. We will be happy to help you.

Best,
David
