Tracking a task's progress without logging time (Kanban board)

We use Kanban board to visualise our flow of work. We also don't track "Spent time" in our team. So the Kanban board just shows which tasks are in development, which ones are in testing and so on, but it doesn't show for how long the task is staying in a particular column.

What is the way to add information about the time the task is in progress to the Kanban board?

There is a "time in column" indicator on cards (a series of dots), and if you hover over it, a tooltip will give you the actual time in column.

Thank you very much! Can the information about the original estimate be also added on cards? (I need to know whether the lead time - the time from beginning the work to the finishing it - is within the estimated time.)

Hi@aleksey.shishkin

Time in Status for Jira Cloud by SaaSJet can also show time in each status (both numerical and graphical data). Users of this add-on can customize report columns: add fields, statuses, creat status groups for calculation of cycle or lead time and add users groups)
Additionally, data about time in statuses available at the issue view panel.

You can use Status Time app. It generates status time report based on your working calendar.

If you are looking for a free app, you can try the free version, Status Time Free.

Hello Aleksey,

If you are interested in a ready-to-go solution, our team at OBSS created Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira app for this exact need. It is available for Jira Cloud, Server and Data Center.

Using Time in Status you can report how much time each issue spent on each status, each assignee or even each user group. (useful for identifying bottlenecks in your process). You can consolidate multiple statuses into a report column (useful for calculating metrics like lead/cycle times). You can also see the number of times each status or transition was used (very useful for inspecting things like reopen counts). You can also list the status entry/exit dates.

One of the downsides of dots on Kanban Board cards or Control Chart is that they consider weekends the same as weekdays. Using Time in Status by OBSS, you can produce reports based on the default 24/7 calendar or define your own business calendars with custom workdays and working hours.

Also add system or custom fields as columns to your report and customize the view format of durations.

All data can be exported as XLS, XLSX, CSV.
