We want our users to be able to update the values in a select list without having to be an admin.  This would help reduce our overhead for managing lots of these custom fields.

Is there a good way to do this with Insight, Proforma, etc.?

The fields may or may not need to be consistent across projects, depending on the use-case.

Hi @Paul Madison

You have a number of options:

  • Components - This is the easiest to get going and gives them the power to dynamically assign issues.
  • Insight - It is possible to go this route, but there are a few caveats:
    • A little bit of a learning curve.  You'd need to set up object type permissions and they'd need to get familiar with the UI which is simple enough, but depending upon your user tech savvy, could be a little difficult
    • Though should be less frequent than field updates, a Jira Admin would still need to manage the custom insight field... Specifically the field filter.  Depending upon how much leverage you give them, as users gain more comfortability with Insight, they may want to create cascading fields and/or change the filter based upon a growing set of attributes.
    • Not an option at this time if they wish to show on an enhanced form.
  • Enhanced Form/Proforma - They won't be able to query the field results unless it's mapped to a custom field on the backend

Hello @Paul Madison ,

I’m Elyes, the associate Product Manager of Elements Connect for Jira Cloud.

We can imagine a dedicated Jira project with its issue summaries used as a Select list option. With Elements Connect, you can Connect to your local Jira and display tickets summaries directly in a Select list.

The Jira global administrator would be in charge of configuring the connection, but once it’s done, users would only need to create a ticket in the dedicated project to see the option displayed in the select list.

Is this something that would fit your need? Would you like a demo of our app answering this use case?

Here is my calendly, feel free to reach out!

Kind regards,
Elyes

We are in the Cloud.  Does this functionality work there?

Hello @Paul Madison ,

Yes, this is also a Cloud functionality, that we have tested.

Hi @Paul Madison

Circling back on Elyes's suggestion, we recently published a community article on how to use Jira issues as select list options. You can find it here for inspiration: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Marketplace-Apps-Integrations/How-to-query-your-Jira-Cloud-REST-API-to-set-up-a-cost-effective/ba-p/1966361

Do not hesitate to contact us if you require assistance in implementing this on your side.

Best regards
