Hi,
One of our customers want to be able to see the Activity tab on issue details. From what I understand (but aren't sure), a user need to be in the "jira-developers" group to see it. How can I change or add permissions to a specific user or group to let them see this tab?
Thank you.
P.S. we are using Jira Software 6.3.10.
AFAIK, you cannot limit a user to Activity. The user needs to have browse permissions for the project(s). The question is do you really want your customer to have full browse access? Assuming you do then you can crelate a new group, e.g. customer1 and place all your customers into it then set up browse permissions for the group. Of course each customer requires a license.
Hi Jack,
Just to be clear. The customer already has access to the project and they are Product Owner as well. They can create, edit, comment and so on. But they cannot see the Activity tab for some reason. So what I need is to know how I can give them permissions to see that part. A collegue told me that you need to be in the "jira-developers" group to get that access but i'm hoping that it can be customized in some way.

that may be true TBH i have always use jira-developers. Is there something about using jira-developers that you wish to avoid? I will do some quick research in the meantime.

Ofcourse the customer should only be able to browse that project as we have a lot of other customers and projects. And also I want to avoid letting the user see internal comments on issues made by jira-developers. So the best solution would be to give the customer permissions through their own group or something.

So there is one key requirement you just stated that thrown a wrinkle in things - "avoid letting the user see internal comments". I'm sure you aren't going to achieve giving them access to the Activity tab and not the comments.
You likely have read this but just in case - Managing Permissions. Note this is a link to Cloud docs and if you are on server you can find similar on Atlassian's support page.
Maybe someone else in the Community has some ideas that will prove me wrong here.

No but as I wrote before, the customer already can comment on issues. But we can make internal comments only viewable for developers. I dont know if this is a custom setting or if it's an out of the box functionality in Jira.

Just to follow up on this. I have now learned that the opportunity to restrict a comment to Developer (or others) is based on Project Roles, and not user groups. Our customer on this project is in the role Product Owner.
And also I have confirmed, that only users in the jira-developers group are able to see the Activity tab in issue details. Other groups will only see the Comment tab.
I'm thinking that there must be a place in Jira, where permissions to see the Activity tab (and other tabs) can be set. This cannot be the Browse Projects permission, as the users not able to see the Activity tab has the permission to Browse Projects.

This is an interesting one.
There are no permissions around the activity stream, it's simply always there for anyone who can see the issue. That makes me suspect you've got a javascript hack removing it for certain users.

My collegue came to the same conclusion as you, but haven't yet confirmed whether this has been done. Can you give me a clue on where I can maybe find this type of changes?

Check the custom field descriptions in the field configuration schemes (intended for a bit of helpful to guide the users, appearing under the field when they create or edit, but sadly, also a route to inject crummy hacks), and the announcement banner.
