What is the maximum number of characters that can be entered into a custom Text Field on a Next-gen Jira project?

The single line text field supports 254 characters.

Great question. I believe that there is currently no limit. 

Back in the day you could set character limits in Jira Server projects through the system but in Cloud from the research I have done there is no limit.
