Right now we can add a Textbox and it is defined as the following.
Text fields allow people to provide information as free-form text. Currently, Jira offers styling for short text entry using a single line text box. More text fields are coming soon.
This is critical for capturing for example "Step to Reproduce" a bug.
Therefore would like to encourage the Atlassian Product Managers to have this feature be added and prioritized to the top or soon as possible. Otherwise it make the product whole lot less useable when you can not enter more than one line in a text field
Providing a date/time timeline of when this will be added will be critical to determining if we continue to use Next-gen Jira projects.
Thank you for a response and I wonder if others have a similar issue. "Vote up" please.
Hello Nilesh,
Thank you for your feedback.
Indeed, we have a feature request opened to implement more custom fields on Next-Gen projects:
- Custom fields for Next-gen project
Please, vote and watch the feature request to increase its priority and be aware of any updates on it.
I have voted for the issue however is there a timeline for when multi-line support will be added over the other fields in the ticket.
I can imagine that is more powerful to allow user to be able to input more information than can fit in one line.
Btw, what is the maximum number of character that fit on a single line text field?
Thanks @Petter Gonçalves

Hello Nilesh,
Unfortunately, our developers have not informed a timeline for this implementation yet.
I saw that you asked this information on the feature request too, which is the correct place to talk directly with the project managers and developers which are working on it. The best we can do for now is wait for their answer. :)
Also, you can refer to the documentation below to know how we handle and prioritize feature requests on JIRA:
- Implementation of New Features Policy
About your last question, the single line text field supports 254 characters.
