Hi All - Newbie here. I am working with the Jira cloud implementation. I am investigating a project that I think was created with default settings. I press the "+" button on the far side of the Jira screen, select the project, and then select the "Epic" Issue Type, I see a screen to enter an Epic. Likewise with "Task" Issue Type. I see that the two screens are different.
Wanting to see why the screens are different, I dug into the screen settings, but I can't see the configuration that is causing them to be different. I see this project is using a "Scrum Issue Type Screen Theme", which assigns both the Epic and the Task issue types to "Scrum Default Screen Theme". Looking into this scheme and its screen assignment, I don't see any different handling of Epic and Type issue types.
Can someone help me understand why these Epic and Task entry screens are different?
Hello Andrew,
I hope you are having a nice day.
Could you provide us a screenshot of both create screens (Epic and tasks) specifying what is different?
By default, there are some fields that its context is related only for Epics (Epic Name, for example) and also the order of the fields are pre-configured on the Epics, not obeying the order of the screen configuration. Besides it, the only possible cause that I can think now is that the create issue screen added to both issue types are different.
Although it seems you have already checked it, you can doublecheck it doing the steps below:
- Navigate to your project > Project Settings > Screens
- Doublecheck if both issue types are using the same Screen scheme
For more information about screens, you can check the documentation below:
Let me know if this information helps.
Hi Petterson,
Thank you for taking my question. Yes, after taking a closer look with a coworker looking over my shoulder, I see that really the only difference was Epic Name and Epic Link. From your comment, some fields are context sensitive, so that explains the difference.
Thanks again!
