Why does Jira need DKIM records to verify a domain?

Justine November 20, 2022

Usually it's just CNAME Bounce and TXT Verify to run dns records check. Is it possible to verify a domain in Jira without adding DKIM records on my domain provider?

DKIM gives us a bit more confidence in that the domain is not just a throwaway spam account, and increases trust and security a bit.  It also guarantees that a message has not been interefered with in transit.

It's not essential, but Atlassian has decided it's a good way to improve trust and safety.

Last time I looked it up, I bookmarked https://postmarkapp.com/guides/dkim as a nice intro.

Will you guys ever use the DKIM records to send emails?

Well, that's not how DKIM works, but Atlassian won't send emails to people who don't sign up for them, and their systems will only email your users when you configure them to do so.
