quick search In Jira

HI all!   If someone can assist with this qusestion, it will be appreciated.

I am about to migrate a project from one instance to another.

Server A - Project A to Server B Project B lets say.

In server A users are able to search for a name and in the drop down,  the issues and projects show up.   This instance is on Jira server 8.5.  (We are going to shut this down after this last project is move)

In my dev environment Datacenter version 8.22, the Quick filter  is not active.   This is important to the team that is going to be using the project.   The team lead has informed me that when her team is visiting clients, it makes it easier to pull the client data.

I believed the Quick filter  was disabled in version 8.9 of Jira DC, but could be back in 9.9 as Atlassian issued a document on how to turn it off in the profile settings.

Does anyone know what controls this feature.  I have combed the config file and the settings.

To be honest I never heard that Quick Search would be disabled in any version.. I see this in documentation for every release including Jira 8.22..

Indeed Atlassian added an option to disable Smart Query in the Profile. That is confirmed here and of course in the documentation that you also mentioned. But they do not say anything about Quick Searching overall.

As for your specific DEV environment that do not have this enabled.. Do you still see entire search form, or form is there but search is not working? Are you able to share a screenshot? I am very curious how it looks.

Do you have any customization on that instance? Any JavaScript hacks that could hide web elements, or CSS changes?

Did you checked System plugins? Sometimes it is possible to disable a specific module that removes some functionality..

Mirek thank you for weighing in.  The screenshot is showing the search bar from my Dev instance which is a  mirror of prod.   To be honest no one has ever asked for quick search, but it is important to the new users to the instance.   The quick search shows up in their current instance and they are used to it.   Now I am not sure how that will affect existing users yet, but I will worry about that later.   I have been an admin here for about 3 years and its not something I've had to tinker with.    

 

In version 9.9, I see Atlassian has given the user the ability to turn it off under profiles.

Its working under version 8.5 of server,  Maybe the upgrade from 8.9 onwards disabled it based on the security concern found here

I would be curious to know if the quick search is working for anyone on DC 8.9 onwards.
