I have the Slack integration. There's a switch on the Slack Integration that says "Display Slack panel on issues in this project". I don't know how to get that to display on an issue screen.

Hey, @Michael Arndt!

You can make it work like this:

1. Make sure you have connected the Jira project to a Slack channel

Type /jira manage in Slack to check if there are connections. You can a response like this:

If your project is not there, type /jira connect and follow the instructions to connect it.

2. Add a Slack message to Jira

In your Slack channel, chose the Add to issue action from the "three-dots menu" in a message.

In the next screen, select an issue and confirm.

After confirmation, the Jira bot will reply to the original message confirming the addition.

3. Open the issue in Jira and open the Slack sidebar panel

In the Jira issue view, look for the Slack sidebar as displayed below:

Click to open.

⚠️ Here, you will have to authorize into Slack, if not done yet, because it displays only content you have access to.

After authorization, you should be able to see the attached messages.

Hopefully, that helps to clarify how this feature works. 😀

Bonus feature: after a connection from a Slack channel to a Jira project has been made issue keys mentioned in the channel will be automatically added to the sidebar of the issue.

Does this mean that Slack messages will only appear on the Jira issue when a Slack message is pushed to Jira?

Is there a way to initiate a Slack conversion from a Jira Issue screen?

That's true. As of today, there's no way a Slack App can query all Slack history to find all references to issues.

At this time, we don't support features such as creating or associating a channel from the Jira issue page.

However, if you click on any channel or user link from a mention in the integration sidebar, it will take you to to the corresponding channel or user in Slack. So, in practice, mentioning an issue in a channel creates some sort of "soft link" between them.

To be clear, if I create an issue in JIRA, and THEN reference it in Slack, it pulls down the detail in my slack conversation (👍) but then it doesn't associate the slack thread to the JIRA issue as demonstrated in the picture (😞). I don't even see the Slack section in the sidebar. Is this because I'm missing something or is this what you're referring to @Luiz Silva ?

If that's true, then if I want the really cool benefit of having the issues conversations tied to the issue I have to create it from Slack (without my issue templates)? 😢

Nick,

Make sure the channel the issue is referenced in Slack has a connect to that Jira project (step 1 in Luiz's instructions above). Please let us know if that resolves the issue.
