In Jira Software / Cloud, we have a custom field. When issues experience a certain transition, we'd like the value to be removed automatically from the custom field. Is there a way to configure this in the Workflow transitions? If so, is there step-by-step documentation available? And what is the best way to test the updated configuration safely before it affects the (cloud) production environment? Thanks.
Hi Petterson,
Thanks for the recommendations. Per the attached, the custom field is "Single List (single choice)"
Hello Chris,
Testing from my side, the same steps described in my last answer should work for Select lists (Single choice) too.
Please, let me know if it works for you.

Thank you. We made the configuration change over the weekend just in case anything went wrong. Everything worked great. Thank you for the help.

Hello Chris,
Can you let us know what is the type of your custom field?
Basically, you can clear the value of custom fields by configuring the post function Update Issue Custom field in the workflow transition. Here are the steps:
1 - Navigate to your Project > Project Settings > Workflows > Click to Edit your workflow under the actions menu
2 - Click in the intended transition > Post Functions
3 - Add the post function Update Issue Custom field, select the field you would like to clear and leave blank the Custom field value:
4 - Publish your workflow
I believe this is a very simple configuration that will not have a great impacting on your current scenario, however, If you would like to try it in a non-production environment first, you can sign-up for a new dev environment in the link below:

Please, let me know if it works for you, Chris.
