Should attachments be deleted from an issue when they're deleted from the Description?

I'm running Jira 8.20.1 and I'm seeing that, when an image is embedded into the Description of an issue, that image is automatically added as an attachment to the issue.

That's the behavior that we want to see but, when the image is removed from the Description, it isn't automatically deleted from the list of attachments on the issue. Is this expected behavior?

Our instance is configured to allow users to delete their own attachments, but the attachment remains even if the same user that added the attachment to the Description removes that attachment, so it's not a permissions issue.

@Matt Parks

Any attachments added to a text field are added as attachments to the tickets themselves. To delete the attachment, the user would need to navigate to the attachments section and remove it directly from there. Deleting the comment/description isn't enough.

Is there any plan to add this request as a feature, or is a possible workaround known?

We use Jira in a non-standard, with lots of rich text and images. The issues are often cloned in their life cycle.

We are hitting attachment limits (some issues hitting 200 attachments). However, 150 of these are just garbage attachments that have been deleted from rich text fields but remain in the attachment section.

We would like a flag/automation rule/add-on/anything to ensure that anything removed from a rich text field is deleted from the attachments.
