Some Issue with the new JIRA 7.10.6

xu sheng August 28, 2018

i found some issue with JIRA server version after upgrade 7.10.6

1) the project sidebar missed of the icons like the release icon (a ship);

2) when using IE 11 to open the JIRA and create the issue, all the mandatory indicator icon (red asterisk) missed as well.

3) we encounter quite a lot of hanging of the browser and only be recovered by kill the browser from task manager. the whole browser will be not responding after click any of the button and page started to refresh.

i have checked the JIRA log but not useful information found. Kindly help us on how to troubleshooting this. thanks in advanced!

btw, we are inside intranet and no network access from the server.

Best Regards,

xusheng

Hi Xusheng,

This could be caused by a few different factors:

  1. Your browser cache is still storing old data. For this, please clear your browser cache and try again.
  2. The Jira cache is storing the old icons. For this, please restart Jira so the local Jira cache can be re-built.
  3. Your Jira instance is running on incompatible Jira Core and Jira Software versions. You can confirm this by generating a support zip  and looking at the versions listed in the application.xml (also looking at the versions and licenses page in Jira)
  4. Your Base URL has changed after the upgrade / your SSL certificate is not working properly and therefore your https links are failing. For this, just confirm that you can access the Jira Base URL that is set in your instance.
  5. Other customizations made, including JVM heap size, were knocked out during the upgrade.

The IE issue, was raised as a bug and reported fixed in versions after 7.10.3 or 7.11 Required fields not marked as required in Internet Explorer browser ("*" sign is missing)

Are you experiencing the same issue with other browsers or just IE?

Cheers,

Keri

Hi Keri,

Thanks for your reply!

i have upgrade again to 7.12.0 and the first 2 issues are resolved now.

for the browser hang issue still have but seems less than previous. this hang will be in all browsers. e.g. the IE, chrome or firefox. it's seems like there are waiting for something and thus got an crash in chrome as it's seperate thread for each tab. but for IE the whole browser will need to restart.

Hi Xusheng,

I'm glad to hear it! There could be a number of factors here causing performance issues.

A few things that are easier to check are:

  1.  Does this happen for all users?
  2.  Does it happen if you're accessing Jira directly from the server itself?
  3.  Try running Jira in safe mode to see if an add-on is causing extra overhead

You can also take a look through our guide here Troubleshooting performance problems, you might also want to consider raising this as a new question for more visibility!

Cheers,

Keri
