Hi there,

We have issue in getting sprint reports. Let me explain it in an example:

on Sprint #1:

  • We have a story called Story #1 which has 3 days estimation time.
  • We logged a work on it with 1 day time spent. So we see its remaining time is 2 days which is correct.
  • Then we completed the story and check the sprint report. We see that the time spent for Story #1 is 1 day. That's correct too.

on Sprint #2:

  • We bring the Story #1 from previous sprint to current and correctly we have 2 days remaining time for it.
  • We logged a work with 2 days time spent on it.
  • Then we completed the Sprint #2.
  • Surprisingly in sprint reports we find that the Story #1 time spent extended to 3 days.
  • The more weird thing is when we check Sprint #1 report, We find the story has 3 days time spent.

Hope you to understand our problem and happy to read your solutions or guidance.

Thank you.

We use JIRA 7.12 server version.

I believe the problem you are having is that JIRA is not designed to have incomplete work carried across sprints.

Work should be planned to be closed within a single sprint. (Agile/Scrum framework)

This would explain why the same story, being tagged with two subsequent sprints, has a total time of 3 days (for both sprints).

If the story had continued into a 3rd sprint, then 3 sprints would reflect the total time spent (effectively tripling the total time spent).

Conclusion: Ensure work is planned and completed in one sprint (i.e. no carry-over).
