Time Spent not appearing on dashboard but present on each task

Josh C March 17, 2025

I'm currently trying to develop some dashboards to to surface how much time has been spent on a particular task vs. the Original estimate.

When I view the individual tasks within the Epic, each has its own estimate and time spent and I can clearly see those values on the ticket as well as in the work log, however my dashboard isn't showing these values in the column that's been added;

You can see here the Work Log with entries as well as the details showing there are 8 hours logged.

However the dashboard doesn't represent this at all;

What I've tried so far (Testing with INST-4: AAA - Project Kick-Off) :

  • Ensured the issue is assigned to someone
  • Ensured the issue is set to 'In Progress'
  • Ensured the issue is in the back log
  • Ensured the 'Time tracking' and 'Original Estimate' fields are available under the Project settings > Fields
  • Ensured Epic, Task, Sub-task all have these two fields added under Project Settings > Issues

I'm not quite sure what else needs to be configured to get this value surfacing correctly, any help would be appreciated!

Hi @Josh C welcome to the Atlassian community.

Thanks for providing the screenshots for better understanding.

Based on the screenshot, the "Time Spent" column is indeed present on your dashboard, but it appears to be empty for the issue "INST-4: AAA-Project Kick-Off".

Please try to check the below steps:

For "Time Spent" value to appear correctly in the column, try to recheck the below:

1. Edit the "Filter Results" gadget

2. Configure the columns: Ensure "Time Spent" is selected. This you already did.

3. Check for any specific configurations for the "Time Spent" column: Sometimes, there might be options to configure how the time spent is displayed (e.g., in hours, days, etc.). Make sure the format is appropriate for your needs.

4. Review the JQL Filter.

5. You have two columns related to time spent: "Time Spent" and "Σ Time Spent". please review them.

6. Please double-check the work log on the INST-4 issue to ensure the time is still correctly logged.

Few reasons why "Time Spent" might be empty for INST-4:

There might be a slight delay in Jira indexing the logged work.

Try refreshing your dashboard after a few minutes.

Try logging out and back into Jira or refreshing your browser..

If the issue still persists, then last option I would suggest is to check with your organization Jira admin.
