Update Issue Status When Time Logged

Gotham Mehra May 21, 2018

Hi. Is there a way to automatically transition an issue to a particular status when someone logs time on that issue? An example is a sub-task. We have three statuses for sub-tasks (Backlog, In Progress, Complete). Most users log time against issues, but often fail to update the status of the issue to "In Progress" or "Complete". I'd like to be able to specify rules like the following:

1. Move to "In Progress" if work logged

2. Move to "Complete" if Remaining Estimate is 0

Thanks.

For really easy automation we use the Automation for JIRA Add-on.

Thanks for that Tom. It may be the way to go, but I was hoping there was a way to do it without using an Add-on.

I understand completely. There are ways to do some minimal automation, but as soon as you get bit by the automation "bug", you want to be able to do it ALL. And for that, you'll usually need an add-on.

Once we compared the cost in man-hours of researching and (hopefully) finding a "free" automation solution to an add-on with a GUI, the decision to purchase the add-on was a no-brainer. And a time/money saver.

Good Luck!
