Hello everybody,

we are currently running Jira 6.3.13 and we want to upgrade to 8.0. Can I do this upgrade directly? Has someone already tried this and can share his experience? Or would you recommend to do a stepped upgrade?

Any hint is highly appreciated.

regards

Michael

You cannot go direct, there are known problems if you skip upgrade steps.

You must go from 6.1 to 6.4, then to 7.0.  I am not sure if there is a minimum recommended 7.x version to take to 8.0 yet - it's not been around long enough!  (It took quite a while to find out that if you went from 6.4 to 7.10+ direct, you ended up with scheme problems).  I would therefore strongly recommend going from 7.0 to 7.13, then to 8.

Hi @ICT Deutschland,

check out this - https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftware/jira-software-8-0-x-upgrade-notes-957981660.html?_ga=2.62780590.361085737.1550034770-970347695.1543609376

We have performed from 7.10.2 to 8.0. So I cannot answer to your specific question. I guess you can directly upgrade to 8.0 (highly recommended to test). There are still few plugins that are unsupported

@ICT Deutschland, I didn't any article that showing direct upgrade from 6 to 8. But from the old documents I can say it is better to go to 7.X and then to 8 as Nic mentioned.

This article might help you to choose the correct version to upgrade (7.X)
