User in Jira receives notification while not involved in specific issue

Volker Jakob June 4, 2024 edited

One of our user reports receiving notifications for issues that she isn't involved or wasn't involved at an earlier time. Not involved means in detail,

  • not the author
  • not watching
  • not mentioned
  • not commented
  • not a project lead
  • not a component lead

I'm having a hard time to figuring out why notifications are being sent to her.

Does anyone have a similar issue in the past? Or can help me to further narrow down this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hello @Volker Jakob

I would check the notification scheme associated with the project, that the user gets notifications from.

Also, this resource mentions interesting point regarding the user email:

  • Checking if users are configured in ⚙ > User Management > Users (it could be that a user is configured with an email address that belongs to another user and that notification emails were sent to that other user)

Hope it helps.

Hi @Pavol Gočal

the notification scheme has not been reviewed in detail yet, as there was just little customization, but I'll take this into account.

The mail address of the affected user is also the correct one.

Thanks.

Hi @Volker Jakob

If I were you, I would verify whether this specific user is not involved in any Automation that sends the notifications to static list of users.

Hi @Klaudia Schön_Deviniti_ good point and indeed initially overseen! Unfortunately, no automation rules are in place. Nevertheless, thanks 👍
