Using Markdown in ticket comments does not work in Jira Cloud

We had a SQL query that would generate Jira Markdown text to document work done.

we would copy and paste the query result and insert it into a tickets comment field using the 'text' tab (in the datacenter version).

We migrated to the cloud, and while previous tickets still display the code correctly, the cloud version does not understand markdown language.

We use SQL to generate Jira Wiki formatted documentation for a clients configuration in multiple tables.
