I am trying to add the version report gadget to my system dashboard however when I add the gadget it will not show my board. For 2 of the boards it shows up with this warning message "The board you selected doesn't have any versions, so you can't set up a version report gadget for it." however my other boards dont even show up on the drop down list even though they have a release version for them
Hi Farbod,
First off, what board type is being used by the boards you are expecting to see, as the version report gadget only applies to Scrum boards, So Kanban and Next-Gen boards will not be displayed as selectable options.
Also if the boards in question tied to Next Gen projects as the Version Report Gadget also can only be used Classic Projects because the Next Gen projects do not have versions yet as covered in:

Hi Farbod,
Since its a Kanban board, to get this on the Dashboard I believe the best option for you is the JIRA Road Map gadget that shows versions which are due for release within a specified period of time.

@Farbod Jahan You can use the Version Report gadget with a Kanban board with small trick. Assuming you are tagging tickets with a release, create a Scrum board in your project even though you are not going to use it. Search for the Scrum board using the gadget and you'll be able to select the release and get the MOP dates.
@E M This would be a feature request for Kanban boards.

Thank you @Omar Torresola !!
I have spent hours experimenting and trying out third-party tools. Just adding a scrum board to the project adds version report - you can still follow Kanban process.
That's a little too far on the 'opinionated software' front, Atlassian. Kanban projects are interested in version progress too..

Yes, @[deleted] . It took me a lot of days to come up with that. Don't know why Jira Product Managers haven't figured that out yet.

Sorry, I know this is an old question, but it doesn't look like this is answered anywhere.
The only boards you can select for the Version Report gadget are Scrum boards. This is unfortunate since there isn't anything in the report that is necessarily Scrum specific from a conceptual standpoint. However, that report does seem to rely on knowing what the Estimation Statistic for the board is, which is specific to Scrum boards in Jira.

What's your question? If you are using a Kanban board but want to use the version report gadget, just add a Scrum board to your project. You don't need to use it. You can rename it to something like: "Scrum board (for release tracking purposes)". Set the estimation to throughput (count items, not points) and you're all set.
