What's the difference between "issue links" and "epic" type in the Matrix configuration?

The issue matrix plugin has these modes listed in the documentation: Subtask, IssueLinks, Epic, Filter, JQL

What's the difference between "Issue Links" and "Epic" when the issue link of "Epic-Story Link" can be used on the former?

Hi Jon,

Epic mode has been designed to be as close as possible to the standard "Issues In Epic" panel in JIRA - the main difference between Epic mode and Issue Links mode is what the "plus" button does - in Epic mode it opens the create issue dialog so you can create a story linked to the current epic, while in Issue Links mode it will open the create link dialog. Also, in Epic mode you can select the issue types you want to see.

Thanks so much, that's actually what my end user was asking about as I have it setup using the Issue Links mode.

That explanation would really be helpful in the documentation.
